Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional talking therapies are not for everyone and there is nothing wrong with that! Verbal expression of experiences can miss what is happening in the body which can leave therapy feeling not quite complete or resolved.
Art Therapy uses some verbal recounting but maintains a focus on creative process and bodily sensations to explore conscious and subconscious experiences resulting in an integrated experience of therapy.
If you are looking for an alternative type of therapy that takes the pressure off of verbalisation or are curious to see how creative processes can help you on your healing journey art therapy might be for you.

When you are ready the first step is to arrange a free 15 minute consultation where I talk you through art therapy, hear more about your current concerns and goals so we can see if our services are appropriate for you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have.
You are able to make appointments online via my bookings page or reach out to me directly and I can book you in.

The initial sessions are intentionally paced and relational. They are focused on getting to know you as a whole person, understanding your current circumstances, strengths, and needs, and creating a shared understanding of what has brought you to therapy. Together, we will begin to identify meaningful and achievable goals that feel aligned with where you are now and where you would like to move towards.
At the beginning of each session, we will take some time to gently check in on how things have been for you since our last appointment. This is an opportunity for you to share any changes, challenges, or reflections that have come up, as well as anything specific you would like to focus on during the creative portion of the session.
Throughout this process, the art-making serves as a supportive and flexible tool for exploration, expression, and insight, rather than something that needs to be “done well.”
The pace and structure of sessions are always guided by your comfort, readiness, and preferences, ensuring the work unfolds in a way that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful.

For in person sessions you do not need to bring any art supplies with you as I provide this.
However if there is something that helps you or your child with your anxiety such as fidget toys or plush toys you’re more than welcome to bring those to your sessions.
